Flamingo Park Racecourse Profile

Flamingo Park Racecourse is located at Kimberley, in the Northern Cape province of South Africa. Horse racing at the venue dates back to 1870. The course underwent significant improvements during the 1980s which included the addition of a grandstand.

Substantial refurbishment again took place at the track in the early 21st century, including the construction of 140 stables. The racing surface was also transformed to meet modern international standards. Having previously been known as Kimberley racecourse, the venue was relaunched as Flamingo Park in 2006.

The racecourse is managed by Phumelela Gaming and Leisure Ltd.

The track is a right-handed oval of 2000m (approximately 1 mile 2 furlongs) with a 600m (3 furlong) home straight run-in. There is also a straight 1000m (5 furlong) chute. The track surface is sand.

The draw has little effect in races of up to 1000m on the straight course. There is a small advantage to horses drawn low in races over 1200m and to a lesser extent in races up to 1600m (1 mile).

Principle races at the course are:

Flamingo Mile 1600m
Flamingo Park Sprint 1000m
Diamond Stakes 2200m
Flamingo Park Sprint 1200m
Kimberley 1400 1400m
Flamingo Park Handicap 1800m
Northern Cape Stayers Handicap 2200m
Kimberley Nursery 1400m
